Christmas is coming…..

You do know it’s nearly Christmas? And you’re heading to the wonderful Peak District  for a cosy cottage holiday?

At Cottage Team, we have teams working everyday except Christmas Day throughout the festive season and into the New Year looking after our guests and cottages (our guest support team are on-call Christmas Day too).

While at Peak Holidays, our cottage marketing brand, they have some great ideas to help you get into the Christmas spirit here in the Peak District……….

Peak Holidays – Our Twelve Days of Christmas

Well then, it’s time to turn that frown upside down and get into the Christmas spirit with a little help from Peak Holidays. It’s all jingle bells and Ho-ho-hos from here on in with our Twelve Days of Christmas.

Twelve days of Christmas

Day One: Turn up those classic Christmas tunes. Whether Bing Crosby’s ‘White Christmas’ or ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’ by Slade, get those Christmas songs playing in the car on your way to the Peak District.

Day Two: It’s time to decorate!  If you’re spending Christmas Day in one of our cosy cottages, you can check with us to see if there will be a tree and decorations provided, but if not, why not get creative and head out outside, gather up some of nature’s finest and ‘deck the halls with boughs of holly’.

Day Three: Get baking! Dig out the Christmas recipes and start making your very own selection of treats. When you book a self-catering holiday cottage with Peak Holidays, you’ll be able to explore the local farmers’ markets and artisan stores for local ingredients.

Day Four: Gather in the logs and kindling and get the home fire roaring. When it’s cold outside there’s nothing more inviting than the warm glow of a real fire. The majority of our holiday cottages have a real fire or log burner and we include a pack of logs to get you started.

Day Five: It’s time to rekindle those old family rivalries. With the nights drawn in and the weather wet and wild, why not round off the evening with a board game, a jigsaw or a good old fashioned game of charades. Our cottages have good sized living areas, so you can all gather together comfortably.

Day Six: Join the locals and pop along to the village carol singing service or local pantomime. Many of our cottages are in small villages where the gentle pace of life often revolves around the friendly local pub and the seasonal celebrations at the parish church.

Day Seven: Enjoy a festive tipple to get you into the Christmas spirit. Whether you fancy a hot ladle-full of spiced mulled wine or one of our locally brewed beers, a little Yuletide libation is sure to sweeten the mood and have you puckering up under the mistletoe in one of the village locals.

Day Eight: How about a cheery Christmas film to fill you with those warm, fuzzy, festive feelings.  Most of our cottages have a DVD player or a smart TV so you can log into your favourite streaming service.

Day Nine: Embrace the great outdoors with a revitalising winter stroll. When you book a stay with Peak Holidays, you’ll be surrounded by some of the UK’s most celebrated countryside walks. It’s time to round up the family, wrap up warm, and follow the tracks and trails.

Day Ten: Christmas is a time for giving. If you’re racking your brains for gift ideas, look at the many special Christmas markets across the Peak District. Picking out that special something for that special someone is sure to capture the Christmas mood.Santa Paws

Day Eleven: Don’t forget Santa Paws. Most of our cottages are dog friendly but remember to bring everything you need to keep your furry friend safe and comfortable this Christmas.

Day Twelve: Any finally, nothing will put a smile on your face than catching up with old friends and spending precious time with your loved ones. For many of us, this is what Christmas is all about, especially after all the recent COVID restrictions. The Peak District’s central location makes getting together that bit easier for everyone to spend quality time with family and friends.

Wishing you all a Very Merry Christmas

We’re Good To Go

Visit England in partnership with the national tourist organisations of Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales has today launched a UK-wide industry standard and consumer mark to provide a ‘ring of confidence’ for tourism as the sector works towards reopening.

The ‘We’re Good To Go’ industry standard and supporting mark means businesses can demonstrate that they are adhering to the respective Government and public health guidance, have carried out a COVID-19 risk assessment and checked that they have the required processes in place……and Cottage Team now have a certificate to prove it!

COVID-19 – Keeping guests safe

Cottage Team has always operated to the highest cleaning standards. We employ rigorous cleaning protocols across all our cottages and whilst operating under the shadow of COVID-19 we have raised these standards to even higher levels.  We are not aware of any other self-catering holiday cottage company in the Peak District offering this level of hygiene and cleanliness as standard.

New Deeper Cleaning Regimes

We have developed a deeper cleaning, sanitising and disinfecting regime for every changeover, using chemicals that have independent certification and are manufactured here in the Peak District – our viricidal / bactericidal disinfectant is proven to kill Coronavirus, as well as all the other common viruses and bacteria that are still in circulation.

During this period of the pandemic our team are temperature and symptom checked on arrival for each shift and will also be wearing PPE including face masks and gloves.

New Specialist Cottage Cleaning

Following the deep clean, the cottage will be disinfected using a ULV fogging technique – developed for hospital operating theatres – this process atomises a super strength disinfectant solution into a fine mist and creates a complete cloud of disinfecting microscopic droplets.

The droplets enter the atmosphere of the whole room being cleansed and help sanitise every aspect of the area, walls, ceilings, floors, furniture, soft furnishings and surfaces. The disinfecting mist gets into every area, and parts that normal cleaning could never reach. Please note, there is a possibility that this process can leave a small residue, which is harmless.

Disinfection to this standard will be completed between every guest departing and prior to all new arrivals. All pillows, quilts, mattresses and cushions are also sanitised using the same technique

All linen, towels and bedding are always washed to Government advised standards, using professional hygiene detergents which kills 99.9% of known bacteria and viruses.

New Swab Tests

As an additional procedure, after the cleaning process is completed, we will use a Hygiena luminometer (in conjunction with ATP swabs) to detect residual ATP as an indicator of surface cleanliness. This test is conducted in the cottage with almost instant results, and we will only make cottages available for check-in when they pass the test.

Safety is our 1st concern

We hope you agree that your cottage and holiday will be as safe as you could ask for. We would ask for your co-operation, understanding and patience, as these new stringent procedures may create a delay in cleaning our cottages ready for check-in. Remember that your safety is our first concern and any delay is only as a result of us taking your wellbeing seriously and following Government guidelines.

Second home owner in the Peak District?

Cleaning your second home in the Peak District

If your Peak District cottage is your second home or you have had some work done, you may not need a full holiday changeover service – which we can also offer!

So, we also provide just cleaning services so your second home or holiday cottage is still fresh and pleasant when you arrive. Our aim is to deliver the very best level of service to our holiday cottage owners. Within this industry, little things make a big difference. We don’t like wonky pictures, we don’t like broken lightbulbs, we don’t like crumbs under sofa cushions…

This isn’t a  ‘one size fits all’ service – we will tailor the cleaning service for each property. However typically this will include;

  • Airing all rooms in the cottage
  • Wipe down/ dust surfaces
  • Sweeping/ mopping and vacuuming floors
  • Clean and sanitise kitchen & bathroom including the fridge, oven, and cupboards
  • Sweep outdoor terraces/ patio and/or decking areas
  • Clean windows and blinds

We are recruiting

We are recruiting part time housekeepers / cleaners for holiday cottages in the Peak District. Up to 10 hours per week. Team leaders, £10.50 / hour; Cleaners £8.50 / hour. Own transport.

We operate a mobile team approach to cleaning the cottages. This means that the location of work will vary from week to week – giving people the opportunity to work in different places and with different people, which helps keep things a bit more varied. The majority of the cottages are within 5 miles of Bakewell with a couple a little further afield.

The work is all year round but there are usually less hours in the winter months. We are advertising for up to 10 hours per week, which will usually spread over 2 or 3 days. The majority of work is on a Friday, Saturday or Monday – when cottage guests changeover, between the hours of 10am and 2pm. We do also have a need for staff on other days of the week, but currently that is not as frequent.
